To resolve a mould contamination issue inside the hospital’s walls, our team was called upon to carry out the mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering for the expansion and decontamination of the 12-storey building.

In order to maintain services to the population during the decontamination works, we temporarily relocated 300 acute-care beds from the Honoré-Mercier pavilion to another pavilion. In addition, we planned for nearly 60,000 square feet of temporary trailers to facilitate the relocation of the emergency and oncology wards, outpatient clinics, and food services.

During the decontamination works, we also undertook a nearly 90,000-square-foot expansion aimed at accommodating critical services such as the intensive care unit, operating room, medical imaging and nuclear medicine departments, laboratories, pharmacy, and sterilization area. Thanks to the energy efficiency expertise of our team, we successfully reduced energy consumption by 43%.

Among other things, works included the structural and architectural rehabilitation of the building envelope, and mechanical/electrical rehabilitation of the various systems. The work was completed in two phases and in fast-track mode, for both plan and construction components.
